Hey everyone! Happy September! Are you as excited as I am for the coming of fall? Pumpkins, spiced chai’s, cozy nights with family and friends… Even though summer is still here for a few more weeks, there is no reason not to begin preparing your house for fall.

Quick Checklist:

  • Now is the time to start thinking about winter and our winter storms.
  • Check your garden for low hanging branches that may need to come down.
  • Consider an HVAC Tune Up
  • Also a great time to get a chimney sweep
  • Check for sprinkler heads that may be leaking even if water is not running.
  • Monthly cleaning reminders: dishwasher filter, washer tub clean, and dryer lint vacuumed out (Coming soon a how to for each of these things on the blog, be on the lookout!)

Now is a great time to start thinking about anything you’d like to get done in your garden before the annual dumping of fall leaves. Take a stroll around your property, maybe think about cutting down low hanging branches. It may be time to consider hiring a tree removal company if any of your trees look like they’re dead or dying. Winter will soon be here and those winter windstorms can be a doozy. In addition to trees, it’s a good opportunity to replace any broken sprinkler heads that may be leaking. It’s easier to check now, as you’re watering less, so you can see wet spots that indicate a leak. Nothing can be more frustrating than a frozen leak that bursts come spring.

Remember to check your HVAC if you didn’t do a tune up prior to summer. You’ll start using your heater in the next month, and HVAC tune up appointments book up quickly during this time. If you have a fireplace or stove, now’s a great time to get your chimney swept for fall.

In addition to thinking about preparing for the change of the season, you may be in a better position to think about selling or buying. Your needs may have changed since your last move, and the market is showing signs of cooling.

  • If you’re thinking about buying, options are opening up and you have less competition
  • If you’re wanting to upgrade your current house, you can still get a good price, and there’s more flux in the market
  • For both buyers and sellers, you have more than a couple hours to make a momentous decision making things a little less stressful.
  • Whether buying or selling, I am here to help you! I can answer any questions about current market conditions and things we can do to set you up for success. Reach out today and lets chat!

September Recipe of the Month:

Butter Lemon Clam Fettuccine

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons Salted butter

½ a medium onion diced

1 clove of garlic

¼  cup Olive oil

Can of chopped clams 6.5 oz

¼ cup lemon juice

3 stocks of celery diced

½  cup peas

½ cup of mushrooms

½ cup roughly chopped parsley

1 pound Fettuccine noodles, fresh or boxed

Salt, Pepper

Optional: 1/4 cup white wine, red pepper flakes

  1. In a deep skillet or pot, heat your oil over medium until foaming. Add your onion, celery, mushrooms, cook until softened, 4-7 minutes.
  2. In a separate pot, begin cooking your fettuccine noodles.
  3. In the pot with your onion, celery, mushrooms, add in your garlic.. Stir to keep from burning. Cook until garlic is fragrant. Immediately in order to not over cook your garlic, add butter, clams, lemon juice. Add white wine if using. Stir 2-4 minutes. Add your peas (if frozen peas add in the first step). Stir until all warmed.  If using wine, add a few minutes on low to cook off any alcohol. Add your parsley.
  4. Set aside a ½ cup of pasta water, drain your noodles.
  5. If clam sauce is thick, add pasta water slowly in small increments as needed. Once satisfied, toss cooked noodles into your clam butter sauce. If using red pepper flakes, sprinkle on top and serve.

Let me know if you need any assistance whether it be in regards to my quick checklist, or in the consideration of buying and selling! Have a great month!

All my best during this changing of the seasons,
